Windows 7 RTM set for September 2009

aprilie 06 23:11 2009

A couple of months ago, wzor.net reported that the RTM would be out by August. However, Windows 7 Center has been notified by two reliable sources that the dates have changed. One of the sources goes by the name skurk and works at one of Microsoft’s partners. (so you can keep track of future rumors and leaks).

Just very recently, Microsoft told its partners that they will be receiving Windows 7 RTM by September 2009. The reason for the delay is because developers and partners are currently unsatisfied with the builds. No specific reasons were given other than that there are still quite a few bugs. If the schedule does not change, Windows 7 will likely be released in November.

A few days ago, InformationWeek reported a Microsoft Windows OEM Manager saying that the company is planning additional major announcements around the time it releases Windows 7 RC, which is in May. Our sources did not tell us if this was the announcement.

As of yesterday, Build 7105 was compiled with the build string 6.1.7105.0.winmain.090404-1235.
The current schedule stands as this:

  • April 2009 for the RC escrow
  • May 2009 for the public release of Windows 7 RC
  • Windows 7 RTM for September 2009
  • Windows 7 to be released no later than January 2010

On an interesting note, the roadmap wzor.net presented earlier also stated that Windows 7 would be presented at “ITForum” at the beginning of November 2009. Could this be the release date? Perhaps we’ll find out when Microsoft delivers their announcement around the release date of the Release Candidate.
